DWP Select Committee Comments

Commenting on yesterday’s Autumn Statement, Frank Field, Chair of the Commons Work and Pensions Committee said: “We are very glad the Chancellor listened to our concerns and has scrapped his proposed £1,300 cuts to the budgets of working families. The cuts would have defeated the laudable policy goal of supporting strivers.

“More than ever is now riding on the rollout of the ambitious Universal Credit system: not only is it the Government’s flagship welfare reform, it is fundamental to the Chancellor achieving his fiscal objectives.

“Yet included in the small print today was a further delay to the implementation of Universal Credit. Over the coming months we will be examining the planned rollout of the programme.”
