Homelessness

Being without accommodation is a difficult state to be in. There exists a number of charities and organisations that seek to end homelessness, and provide the necessary care to those without shelter.

hyh is an independent charity that has been supporting vulnerable people in Hertfordshire for over 15 years. We have offices throughout Hertfordshire with over 50 staff and many more volunteers. Most of our work is with young people aged 16-24 who have had difficulty in securing and maintaining safe, secure accommodation.

Emmaus is a homelessness charity with a difference. They don’t just give people a bed for the night; they offer a home, meaningful work and a sense of belonging.

For many people who have experienced homelessness, losing their self-esteem can be the most damaging part of their experience. Being on your own, with no support around you can be soul destroying, leaving you feeling worthless.

Set up over 20 years ago, the NHAS is a partnership between Shelter and Citizens Advice, funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government. The overall aims of the project are to enable frontline providers to deliver good quality housing and homelessness advice, and support and facilitate the prevention of homelessness where possible.

Lancaster and District Homeless Action service (LDHAS) is the leading homeless charity in the Lancaster region.

They work with people from many varied backgrounds where circumstance has led them to be sleeping rough, or struggling to manage their own accommodation. The service is committed to helping people find accommodation and learn the life skills essential for independent living and provide help and support to engage with the job market.

LDHAS is assisting those who are homeless or in housing poverty in the Lancaster and Morecambe area and surrounding districts.

Colchester Korban Project provides a safe and secure stop-gap for vulnerable young people, whilst solutions are found to their housing problems. With your help, we can help to prevent young people falling into the downward spiral of long-term homelessness.

Volunteer families offer a young person the chance to stay in a safe, friendly, normal environment. This allows an often confused and vulnerable young person the chance to take stock of their situation without the worry of where they will sleep tonight.
