Rarely out of the news, Food Banks have been helping people meet their needs and the needs of their children. Food Bank use was already growing under the Labour government but use has spiralled upwards at an alarming rate due to Benefits Sanctions under the Conservative Party led coalition government. Here you can find organisations that provide assistance for you and your family.

With nearly 800 million people suffering from hunger worldwide we believe food banks are an essential part of the solution for alleviating hunger and improving food security. Through training, sharing of best practices, building relationships with the global food and grocery industry, leveraging our resources, and bringing together a global community, GFN is ensuring more communities are using the powerful solution of food banking to feed the hungry.
The foodbank based at the Westminster Chapel provides three days worth of nutritionally balanced food to residents in the Borough of Westminster experiencing financial criis, through a voucher scheme. It is a part of nationwide network of Foodbanks overseen and which is upported by the Trussel Trust (through training and sources).

Right Choices Food Bank is a city wide service, however, is based in Headingley Leeds and is run solely by volunteers.
The food bank is opened on a Monday and Thursday between the hours of 1.30 p.m. and 2.45 p.m. There are delivery services provided to the most vulnerable people within the community areas which includes LS 2,3,4,5 and 6.
As an individual you can have enough items to make yourself a meal, please note this will be only ambient (dry) foods, tins and seasonal fresh vegetables.
Food banks have seen a significant increase, not just in Leeds, but across the United Kingdom. As with any definition it is subjective and open to interpretation as to how one defines a Food Bank. Two key characteristics that are often found at foodbanks are that the person who is receiving food has often been referred by another agency/group, using some kind of referral system. Secondly, the recipient receives a food parcel which they take back to their house/accommodation in order to access.
Holbeck Food Bank is a food distribution service providing crisis food parcels to individuals and families in Holbeck. We work on a referral basis, to provide food for those who are in immediate need and cannot currently provide food for themselves.

Living rough on the streets while it is winter in the UK is quite a challenging task. No one should be allowed to struggle like that. Living in poverty could mean struggling for daily requirements which is an essential and means of survival unlike that being viewed as luxury. It is essential to make sure that no one is deprived of essentials like food, water, shelter and clothing. There are various foodban organizations that help in providing food to the needy.
The Trussell Trust’s aim is to end hunger and poverty in the UK. We support a nationwide network of food banks and together we provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
We support more than 1,200 food bank centres in the UK to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis (for instance by advice agencies, GPs, social services and schools), as well as support to help people resolve the crises they face. Between April 2018 and March 2019, food banks in our network provided a record 1.6 million food supplies to people in crisis, a 19% increase on the previous year.
We know it takes more than food to end hunger. We bring together the experiences of food banks in our network, and their communities, to challenge the structural economic issues that lock people in poverty, and campaign for change to end hunger and poverty in the UK.
