Bernie Sanders US Presidential Candidate Promo
Tuesday 27 October, 2015 Written by Australian FabiansBernie Sanders the Democratic Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, says his campaign ‘is going to send a message to the billionaire class: you can't have it all'. He believes the economy can’t be strong unless everyone has access to a good education, which is why he is promising free tuition at public colleges and universities and lower interest rates on student loans. Reinforcing his commitment to Universal Health Care he says ‘I don't want to see people not go to the doctor when they're sick because they can't afford to pay the doctors’ fees’. He also supports action to fight climate change, wants to create 13 million jobs through infrastructure investment, and backs pay equity for women.
In a policy commitment which would have a positive impact to reduce wealth inequality, he promises to increase the minimum wage to $15 (9.80)GBP an hour, stating ‘when someone works in this country for 40 hours a week, that person should not be living in poverty’.
‘The issue of wealth and income inequality is the great moral issue of our time. It is the great economic issue of our time. It is the great political issue of our time. This type of rigged economy is not what America is supposed to be about. This has got to change and as your President, together we are going to change it’.
No matter who wins the Democratic nomination and the 2016 US election, there is hope that Bernie’s growing popularity gets his message of the dangers of wealth inequality on the next US President’s agenda.
