International Women's Day
Monday 08 March, 2021 Written by PoliticoINTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - German Chancellor Angela Merkel warns against falling back into old patterns: “It’s mainly women, again, who are mastering the balancing act between homeschooling, childcare and their own jobs,” she mused in her weekend podcast. “We’re not there yet,” she said, referring to “the management floors in the private sector but also in politics” and calling for “parity” in all areas of society. Merkel’s call to action: “Women must finally be able to earn as much as men.”
Boudicca (d. 61 CE) was the Celtic queen of the Iceni tribe of modern-day East Anglia, Britain, who led a revolt against Rome in 60/61 CE. The Iceni king, Prasutagus, an independent ally of Rome, divided his estate between his daughters and the Roman emperor Nero (r. 54-68 CE). Boudicca led a revolt against the Romans and sacked Colchester where a layer of burnt earth records records the event.
