Wanted: Drug Users for Drug Tests: U.S. pharmaceutical companies are recruiting thousands of recreational drug users to clinical trials as the industry races to develop a new generation of “abuse-deterrent” opioid painkillers. Officials have estimated the number of opioid abusers in the U.S. at 2.1 million, with overdoses responsible for roughly 45 deaths a day.
