Man Went on Hunger Strike For 47 Days Because Of Universal Credit

He has now just moved into his new ground floor flat. He claimed: “The DWP is killing people, this welfare system is killing people, our government is not listening and not acting.
During the protest, he told the local newpapaer LeicestershireLive: “The very real fact is, Universal Credit is killing people.
“There are people dying because of it and I won’t eat until someone listens to me.
“I refuse to sit back and let this happen, it’s inhumane and can’t continue.”
During the strike, Mr Silverstone, a dad of two and granddad, displayed a poster in the window of his flat, opposite Morrison’s in Melton, in the hope that others would also take an interest in his stand off.
He called off the strike when he was moved to a ground floor flat and his Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and Universal Credit claims were reassessed and back paid to him.
