Labour Plans to Build 150,000 New Council & Social Homes by 2024
Sunday 24 November, 2019 Written by PoliticoLABOUR MANIFESTO - One of the most interesting items in the Labour Party manifesto is £75-billion pledge to build 150,000 new council and social homes a year by 2024, billed as the biggest council house-building program since shortly after the war, and the biggest affordable-home-building drive since the 1960s.
The Tories, meanwhile, make their own housing pitch today, pledging to introduce a new type of mortgage with long-term fixed rates and only requiring a 5 percent deposit, to help renters get on the housing ladder.
More from Labour: The manifesto also includes a pledge of 1 million green jobs in the energy sector and from housing refurbishments, as part of plans to combat the climate crisis.
