The Taylor Review Gig Economy Report Gets Acted On

The Government is pressing on with plans to upgrade workplace rights, it announced today.

New legislation will seek to introduce a day one statement of rights for all workers, setting out entitlements and pay.

Other reforms include scrapping the 'Swedish dergoation', which can see agency staff paid less than permanent workers.

Commenting on the news, the IoD pointed out that improving the clarity for businesses around employment status would be key, arguing that 'The government is right to respond to emerging issues in the shifting labour market, but we can’t lose sight of the value of flexible work brings to worker and business alike.'

The package of changes comes off the back of the Taylor Review into modern working practices. Greg Clark, Business Secretary, today said that the success of the labour market 'has been underpinned by policies and employment law which strikes an effective balance between flexibility and worker protections.'
