Last Day of Campaigning for Local Elections

Today is the last day of campaigning for tomorrow’s English local elections, the first country-wide test of electoral opinion since last year’s general election. The Labour party are defending over 2,200 seats, while the Conservatives around 1,350 seats. Tories are hoping to win in Brexit-backing areas of the country. Meanwhile, Labour are expecting to perform well in London and the Lib Dems are hoping that their call for another referendum on EU membership will secure them votes in pro-EU areas.

The Financial Times has put together a brilliant summary of five things to watch in the UK’s local elections – take a look here. It will certainly be a telling moment for the Government on what the public makes of its negotiations with Brussels, with just under a year to go until Britain’s exit from the EU.

ABC Note: Please make your vote count. These elections are an important barometer.
