Immigration Bill Delay Causing Internal Tension

Amber Rudd’s decision to delay the Immigration Bill until next year Rudd is facing pressure from Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey and Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom, among others, to move faster with her proposals for a post-Brexit immigration system. Rudd however wants to wait until new research she commissioned on the economic impact of immigration cuts is ready — and she appears to be winning the battle.

The home secretary is being pressed by Brexit-supporting ministers to speed up a bill that is supposed to settle the new immigration system after Britain leaves the EU in March next year.

The prime minister meanwhile has spent the week apologizing for having Commonwealth-born Brits barred from their own country and their own health service. All rather embarrasing.
