Next year will be an important year for ending hunger, with two important attempts by back bench MPs to take meaningful action on ending UK hunger.
On January 19 there will be the second reading of Frank Field's bill on ending holiday hunger. At Christmas many families will be hit by the dual problems of higher heating bills, expectation of presents and pressure to have a big meal on Christmas Day. Some simply won't be able to make ends meet. Let's make sure that next Christmas the government is doing something to help those families.
Two weeks later, we have Emma Lewell-Buck's bill calling for the government to measure food insecurity. This is one of the things in our Menu for Change: if we measure it, we can fix it. We know that rising foodbank usage alone doesn't tell the full story of those who can't access sufficient food, and we believe the government have a responsibility to take notice.
