'Three Minutes of Nothing': Herald Reporter Reflects on PM Encounter
Friday 02 June, 2017 Written by Sam Blackledge, The HeraldWe had to laugh about this interview with Theresa May with the Plymouth Herald newspaper.
You can understand why Theresa May did not want to debate with Jeremy Corbyn:
The [Plymouth] Herald Chief Reporter, Sam Blackledge, attempts to prize some straight answers from Theresa May and like fisherman on Plymouth Docks, finds it hard to land his catch in this slippery engagement.
Here Sam goes into Battle:
Reporter: Two visits in six weeks to one of the country's most marginal constituencies – is she getting worried?
Theresa May: "I'm very clear that this is a crucial election for this country."
Reporter: Plymouth is feeling the effects of military cuts. Will she guarantee to protect the city from further pain?
Theresa May: "I'm very clear that Plymouth has a proud record of connection with the armed forces."
Reporter: How will your Brexit plan make Plymouth better off?
Theresa May: "I think there is a better future ahead for Plymouth and for the whole of the UK."
Reporter: Will you promise to sort out our transport links?
Theresa May: "I'm very clear that connectivity is hugely important for Plymouth and the South West generally."
More interestingly today it has been reported that:
A cross-border investigative journalism effort has revealed MEPs are up to interesting things with their office expenses allowances. The probe found “at least 41 cases where MEPs pay rent to national political parties or even to their own personal accounts. In 249 cases, MEPs either said they have no offices, refused to reveal their addresses, or the location of the offices could not otherwise be tracked.” MEPs can spend €40 million a year “without having to produce a single receipt,” said Nick Aiossa, policy officer at Transparency International EU.
