A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy is set to tackle a sponsored walk to raise money for the homeless.

Samual Windle, of Bendrick Road, was said to have become very upset by the sight of "people lying on the ground" whilst on a trip to Swansea with his mum.

Amy Windle, 30, said her son kept asking, 'what are those people were doing?'

"He kept saying to me 'why are those people holding out their hands to people' and 'why are they lying on the floor'," she added.

"Later on, Samual still kept questioning it, so I decided to explain the whole homelessness issue and that some people are not as fortunate as others.

"I also mentioned that some people try to help the homeless and other unfortunate people by raising money."

For the next three months, the six-year-old is said to have persistently mentioned the issue and said he wanted "to do" something to help.

"We then decided to plan a sponsored walk, just shy of five miles" his mum added. "We'll be walking from our house to Romilly Park."

The youngster also decided to hand out information to family and friends.

"By doing this he feels he is raising more awareness of homelessness," his mum added.

The mother and son started collecting donations nine days ago and have so far raised £130.

Mrs Windle added: "I'm very excited for him. It's quite emotional at the same time - it is a big thing for a six-year-old to do off his own back.

"We're hoping to walk Friday - weather permitted of course."

The money will be used to buy blankets and other supplies for the homeless.
